Ian Richardson

I am a local Nelson artist who co-owns the White Space Gallery in Brightwater with my partner Wendy. After 4 years of studying photography and mixed media at Strode College in Somerset, UK I ventured into textured acrylics and abstract art. This was heavily influenced by artists and photographers such as Piet Mondrian, Jackson Pollock and Ansel Adams. The inspiration for my art is from life events, moments and experiences. This has been developed from my photography where time is captured within a frame, now I use a frame to allow time to enjoy the moment. My passion of abstract originates from my children when they were small and saw the world differently, blurring the boundaries of reality, creativity and imagination. We would question each other in art galleries in what feelings, emotions and thoughts were generated through a picture….it is through these experiences my love of abstract grew. There is no right or wrong, just an interpretation of what we see and how it makes us feel. I hope you enjoy my art and the moment of time.
