Sally Reynolds
I started painting in 2005 when my family and I moved back to Brightwater. This move was like a homecoming, after being away from Tasman for half my life. In late 2011 we moved to Mahana, where I enjoy the luxury of having a dedicated studio space.
Now my family is grown up I feel fortunate to be able to spend more time painting, and creating sculptural and textile works, such as my unique woven mandalas. Every day that I get into my studio is a great day.
My paintings are intuitive, abstract landscapes created using either oils with cold wax medium or acrylics. As I paint I let each painting develop, trying not to influence the outcome, but rather letting each painting find its own voice.
I am inspired by the landscape and my emotional response to it. I find inspiration in every day places; the coast, plains, our view of the mountains and hills. My paintings are based on memories of these places and my concern for preserving our natural environment.
